The Men's Semi finals went to form with the two
Liverpool League players Bray and Mudie going through to the final. Andrew Mudie beating Trevor Jones comfortably after losing the first game.
The more experienced Tom Bray beat Junior Champion Jamie Hewitt in three straight to take his place in the final.
The Open Doubles final was an all Formby TTC affair with Tom and Dave playing youngsters Adam and Ben. Although the younger pairing managed to take the third game Dave and Andrew won 3-1 in the end.
In the third division restricted final young Danny Houghton looked quite nervous in the opening game against the older and more experienced Lung Yu losing 11/3. He played some fine shots in the next game but lost this also, quickly followed by the third game. Danny was struggling to read Lung's spin services throughout but this will come with more experience.
He should not be disappointed by his performance as he looks a good prospect for the future.
In the Over 40's final Dave Evans got off to a good start winning the first game 11/8. Julian Quirk got his game in order and won the next three games comfortably.
The Junior final saw two youngsters from Formby TTC playing, the talented Adam Choi and the more experienced Jamie Hewitt. Jamie won in three straight but they were all very close games with both players playing some excellent shots.
The over 55's final saw Dave Evans and Colin Fyles locking horns. Dave the pre match favourite won comfortably in three.
The 2nd Division final proved to be a very entertaning match, second only to the Men's Final, between junior player Alec Buchanan and former over 55 champion Brian Crolley.
Alec won the first two games comfortably with some fine forehand topspin shots to all parts of the table. Alec was then 7-1 ahead in the third, well on his way to winning, but somehow managed to lose 11/9. Anyone who has played Brian knows that he always gives 110% and is extremely hard to beat. Brian never looked back and took the next two games 7 and 9.
The men's final between clubmates Tom and Andrew was an excellent affair. Favourite Andrew Mudie started very slowly and lost the close first 12/10. He came back strongly in the second and won easily 11/6. The next two games were shared again 6 and 6. Tom Bray won the final game 11/8 but was pushed all the way by a below par Andrew Mudie. Tom won I think mainly with his backhand topspin shots and delicate touch play which Andrew found hard to deal with.
